Baby's bath :
 
Practical advice :
Check water temperature before bathing your baby, it should be at 27°C and room temperature between 20°C and 22°C.
Never bathe your baby in a cold room.
Never leave your baby alone in a room.
Choose a little bathtub in plastic. Always use an anti-slide carpet when putting your baby in a bathtub.
Never let go of your baby in the bathtub: hold him firmly with one hand and wash him with the other.
One bath per day and a shampoo is enough to clean his scalp and limit the appearence of cradle cap. Baby's scalp and hair should be daily washed using products specially formulated for babies.

Practical advice :
A newborn urinates and have bowel movements many times a day. It is therefore necessary to change his diapers at least 6 or 8 times a day !
Start by washing your hands, then clean the biggest part of the stools with a cotton pad soaked with baby lotion, a no-rinse cleansing fluid or with alcohol-free thick wipes.
Wipe front to back and insist in skin folds.

You can finish changing your baby by applying an hydrating lotion and apply a protective cream after drying well all the folds. These creams have a double effect: they protect skin from diaper rash due to irritation and absorb humidity diminishing consequently the maceration. They are mostly used for redness and in case of irritations but they can be used daily for sensitive skin.

Diaper rash :

Diaper rash is a very frequent problem for newborns. It has many possible origins :
- Humidity
- Diaper rash
- The acid PH of the urines
- Maceration
- Heat
Frequently changing diapers is important. Changed less frequently, diapers favour maceration. This phenomenon is usually aggravated by dental eruption and diarrheas.
Our recommendations :

Do not forget to rinse the body lotion or use a no-rinse body lotion.
Dry baby's skin carefully, particularly in folds.
Use a protective cream.

In the event of diaper rash, after drying skin apply aqueous eosin at 2%, and leave the baby's diaper area open to the air as much as possible. Do not apply talcum powder.
Replace complete changes by cotton diapers during this period.
